This one is personal. It’s very close to home for me. It was a journey I had to embark on, which led me to dark places and difficult feelings. I wrote this to remind myself of the struggle, but more importantly to remind myself that I fought my way through it all and eventually found the light.
We find that it’s usually the hardest things we must face in our lives that make us realise or appreciate the things that we have. In many cases, where someone has had a near death experience, they come back to this world with a new appreciation for everything within it. We’ve all seen or heard people talk about this.
But it’s not only a near death experience that makes us feel this way. It’s also those tough moments in our lives. But as they’re unfolding, it may be difficult to see it from a place of love and appreciation. And this is because we’re generally consumed with emotions of pain, anger, fear or grief. And it’s always in hindsight that we realise that the difficult moment was meant to be, as it redirected our lives and led us down the path to where we are today. It helped shape us and helped us grow.
And these are the gifts that we’re given. It’s these moments that we are called into action that are the real treasures. We are the treasure.
Being consciously aware of what is taking place in our lives gives us an opportunity to make the realisation immediately, without having to wait upon hindsight. The key is to let go and don't resist what's happening. You're only resisting yourself.
My message to you is to be awake and not let your life drift into a transit to nowhere. You have every moment right now. Make today yours and in every situation that unfolds, try and understand it from a place of conscious awareness.
We all have a gift to share. And it can be hard to find. But don’t give up, as it’s the most rewarding thing when you eventually locate that treasure.
The Journey of the Hero
From somewhere he hears a voice, and somehow he knows he must adhere,
He is woken from the deepest sleep, in which his life chose to disappear.
He heard it and he felt it, it came from somewhere he had never been,
It was so deep down inside of him, it had never ever been seen.
His desperation grew with every moment for this desire to see,
He made a promise to find it, even if it took all of eternity.
Deciding to follow this feeling caused his heart to beat at pace,
He knew if he started this journey, he wouldn’t know what he’d face.
But this feeling of fear would not stop him to go,
So he prepared for this journey; The Journey of the Hero.
He organised himself as well as he could, with what he already did know,
But he did not know what this journey would put him through, and what it would show.
He realised he must not have any preconceived ideas,
He knew he must keep moving forward, even if confronted by his greatest fears.
He started to move forward, and began to feel the pressure,
But he was really committed to get his hands on the treasure.
He found himself lost in a place, but continued with very little light,
Although terrified, he started to feel that the treasure would soon be in sight.
All of a sudden, he was consumed with fear, as he was met head first,
By an opposition so powerful, and it had a tremendous thirst.
At first he could not see whom he was fighting, as the light was too dim,
But he eventually got a glimpse, and was shocked to realise that it was him.
And as that happened, that voice reappeared,
The one he heard previously, to which he immediately adhered.
The voice said, “Be calm, give love and stop resisting,”
“Just trust and let go, please, I’m insisting.”
With nowhere else to turn, and feeling like death,
He stopped fighting, and soon took his final breath.
In letting go and trusting, he encountered his soul,
Who told him that love is all he needed, where he was about to go.
He went to places in his life, places he already knew,
He also saw things about himself, from which many realisations came through.
And it soon became apparent to him, it was impossible to deny,
That his life was flashing in front of him, right before his eyes.
Moments of darkness and periods of joy,
Is always the intended experience of the soul’s methodical ploy.
He wept, while he wondered, as memories came into view,
Why he never realised he had such a beautiful life, and how he let it slip through.
Ironically in death, he felt a purpose and reason to live,
If he only had another chance, it would be everything that he would give.
He finally fell in love with life, with everyone and everything that had been,
And as he chose to love it all, the path he was to walk could finally be seen.
He could now see where he was and where he needed to go,
In order to continue his journey; The Journey of the Hero.
As he continued on, he eventually stumbled upon the treasure,
But he was confused when he saw it, for it was something that had no measure.
He asked his soul, “Is this correct? Can this be true?”
To which his soul replied, “Yes, of course. The treasure has always been you.”
Tears flooded his eyes, as his consciousness was shifted,
He started to see and accept, what it was that he had been gifted.
He asked, “Is there any way back home, I’ll pay any fare!”
“I feel I now know my purpose in life, and this gift I must share.”
“Yes”, replied his soul, “But you must go back the way you came.”
He accepted, and he knew, that he’d be confronted again with fear and pain.
However, the determination he now had for life and to share this gift,
Gave him courage and strength, the more his love for life did lift.
As he made his way home, he felt that this is only the start,
He knew there’d be a number of challenges, that’ll require leading from the heart.
On his way back home, he came to realise that this journey is one that never ends,
It’s one that’ll continue to test him, as the universe always intends.
There will be moments where he’ll feel he won’t get through,
But these are the opportunities, to make you a better you.
The Journey of the Hero is one that is life long,
It’s a tune that he must keep singing, while writing his life’s song.
This is the only way that he will be able to share,
This treasure, this gift, that is him, and extremely rare.
The voice said to him one last time in his ear,
“Love is the only way; it will defeat any fear.”
“Don’t let life’s situations put you back to sleep,”
“You’ve been given a second chance, and this one you must keep.”
“You’ve found your treasure and now it’s one that can never be lost,”
“You must promise yourself to share it, at any given cost.”
The hero understood and made the promise to himself,
“I will choose to love everything, and most importantly, myself.”
“My appreciation for life and every story that has been written,”
“I will cherish forever, and it’ll never be forgotten.”
“I will share my gift with the world, so everyone can see,”
“That my intention is to love, and that this love will only ever be me.”
